Meet The Committee

Meet Kevin Long, Society Chairman, Kings Langley Local History and Museum Society

I have been interested in history since my schooldays. I studied History at Brighton Polytechnic. I then worked in Financial Services and sadly did not get a chance to use my interest in my working career.

Now that I am retired, I have the time to renew my interest in History. Like many people I have investigated my family history but sadly have so far found nothing notable until the other day when it appears i might be related to a notorious highwayman. I am a member of the Historic Houses Association.

I am a volunteer tour guide at Chenies Manor and I really enjoy taking groups of people around and giving them an insight into the story of that property.

Meet Mike Reveley, Senior Lead Archivist, Kings Langley Local History and Museum Society

Kings Langley was a great place to be during my childhood and teenage years. I have ancestors from the parish going back over two centuries. Since I became a council member in 1996 I have never ceased to be enthralled by the extraordinary history of this village.

From its founding in 1969 this society has built up a great collection of resources, made available to our members and the public in the form of booklets, newsletters, talks, exhibitions, the website and in response to individual requests.

It is so good to see longstanding and new colleagues continuing to research and publicise our remarkable local heritage.

Meet Eleanor Broughton , Archivist (Deputy to Lead Archivist Mike Reveley), Kings Langley Local History and Museum Society

…

I was born and educated in Kings Langley and I am the 5th Generation of my extensive well known   family who were born, lived and worked locally  here since 1858. Many of them were involved in all the village life and events over the years from as early as 1919.

I joined the Kings Langley History Society in 1990 as a member and within 2 months became the Secretary of the Society a position I held for over 30 years plus involvement in archivist work.  I lead the Wednesday morning research sessions at the moment, and I am now concentrating more on the archiving side although still being involved in our talks, films, and future events being planned.

I have been very lucky to have worked alongside some very knowledgeable historians over the years, and they have all been very supportive. I have been involved with many projects over the years the largest being the recording of the Ovaltine collection.  Working alongside our President and the archivists on these was a great privilege as well as an experience.

I love all the history of Kings Langley, but my personal speciality research is the Baden Powell movement of both Scouts and Guides which  I was also involved in for over 20 years.

Meet Sue Long - Events Secretary, Kings Langley Local History and Museum Society

My life long interest in history started as a child when my father took me on a small archeological dig near Fishbourne Roman Palace, Chichester.

I have always found history and its artefacts truly fascinating. My interests are largely in local and royal history which we have in abundance here in Kings Langley.

I qualified as a Chartered Librarian in 1981 and moved to Kings Langley in 1990 with my young family.

I am bringing my organisational and display skills to the Society as Events Coordinator. I also help with some of the everyday tasks to ensure the Society runs smoothly.

Meet Kim Seager, Website Coordinator, Kings Langley Local History and Museum Society

I joined as a volunteer to do transcribing of records in early 2023, before the relaunch that December. My main historical interests are pre 20th Century, particularly Mediaeval, Tudor and Georgian. I have been researching my family tree for over 30 years and before my retirement worked as a Film Conservation Specialist at the BFI National Archive. I have recently been involved with Eddie at ProMedia in helping to creating the new website that you see today. Thus my role as website coordinator.

I was supported in getting the website content accurate by our longest standing and amazing people, Mike Reveley and Eleanor Broughton.

Meet Stewart Mitchell, Council Member, Kings Langley Local History and Museum Society

Born in 1958 at Ovaltine Egg Farm into a local family with strong wartime roots, I was educated in Kings Langley before training with the NHS and working as a hospital maintenance electrician for 12 years. I’ve been self-employed since 1986 and now run N&N Electrical Services from the High Street.

A lifelong local, I played football and cricket for Kings Langley before becoming a referee (1991–2020) and later coaching both senior and junior teams. I have two children, Annie, who works in film art design, and Harvey, an estate agent.

I’ve always had a strong interest in archaeology, including contributing to the discovery of a previously unknown medieval settlement in London Colney. I’ve also studied Mesopotamia and Roman Londinium, continuing my interest in history.

With deep roots in Kings Langley – including family buried in the churchyard – I have a strong knowledge of the area and am always happy to support the community where I can.

Meet Amanda Taylor, Minutes Secretary, Kings Langley Local History and Museum Society

Originally from north London, I’ve lived in Kings Langley for over twelve years. I have always had an interest in history – the events that have shaped us both locally and nationally.

Since  joining  KLLHMS as an archivist this interest has been further developed by the array of fascinating archives at the society’s disposal. This has underlined how diverse and rich a history Kings Langley has.

As well as being an archivist I’m also the Minutes Secretary, roles which are enjoyable and fulfilling.
